Two million journeys a day – and a single system set to change them all
13 / 04 / 2026
A major transformation that will bring real-time data, greater accuracy and smarter planning to the UK rail industry is underway The new long-term partnership to modernise LENNON – the system responsible for processing around two million rail journeys every day – will be a catalyst for change in the railway network. Discover how the next-generation platform will help create a more responsive, customer-focused railway fit for the future.
A new nine-year partnership between Worldline and Rail Delivery Group is modernising the system at the heart of Britain’s rail revenue settlement.
LENNON currently processes around two million rail journeys each day, managing approximately £12 billion in annual fare revenue. Now, in a major step forward for the UK rail industry, the platform replaces legacy systems with cloud-based technology, creating a more flexible and scalable system built for a data-driven railway.
The modernisation will mark a significant shift away from the decades-old probability-based model used to allocate revenue between operators. Instead, the upgraded platform will use real journey data from ticket sales, gate information and service performance to more accurately reflect how customers actually travel.
The transformation will support the wider evolution of Britain’s railways as services move under Great British Railways. By providing a clearer national picture of customer demand, the modernised platform will enable operators and planners to make better decisions about services, capacity and connections.
The aim is clear – a more transparent and responsive railway that delivers smarter, more reliable travel experiences closely aligned with customer needs.
