Artificial Intelligence and data analytics offer the transport and mobility sector its best opportunity yet to revolutionise the customer experience, Martin Howell told the Google PRISM Programme at Interchange 25.

Worldline’s Transport Markets Director for UK&I kicked off day two of the Manchester event with a dive into how the twin technologies are beginning to change the face of the industry.
“AI and data-led decision making will accelerate progress across the industry – enhancing efficiency, optimising operations and improving the customer experience,” he told the gathering of the industry’s leading technical innovators.
“By analysing passenger flow and movement data, we can offer more personalised services and unlock productivity gains that pave the way towards a seamless future for transport that operators and customers want.”
He welcomed the early impacts AI is having across transport and mobility, and insisted: “We’re scratching the surface of its potential, for example reducing time saving on AI use in rostering from hours to minutes.”
He called on policy makers to consider the future world in which their children and grandchildren will live, and posed a simple question – “how we can harness the immense transformative power of AI to improve lives in ways we can currently only begin to imagine?”
He added: “The idea of steering AI to help us predict the future and its potential is the best possible use case for a technology that so many fear, but that could actually be the most important invention in the history of humankind.
“In a few short years from now the transport world – indeed the entire world – will be unrecognisable thanks to the transformative power of AI. It’s important that we think about how we make it unrecognisably better.”
