I started my career at Worldline as a Software Development apprentice in 2021, at the age of 28, after working in various different industries including social care, education and tech. The apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to learn a skill through a structured learning path, at a time in my life where retraining through traditional means would have been prohibitive. I was able to gain experience working in industry, all whilst getting paid.
At the same time as studying, I was given the opportunity to become the co-lead for Worldline’s EDI Gender Pillar. In this role, I’ve been able to organise events and drop in sessions, as well as take part in diversity initiatives, such as the Big Rail Diversity Challenge, where last year, my team brought home an award based on our teamwork and communication.
Both my apprenticeship work and the additional roles that I took on led me to receive a nomination for the Female Apprentice of the Year at the Women in Rail Awards in 2023, where I was given the Highly Commended award in my category.
