Technical Solution Manager at Worldline Sinagpore

What is your line of work? Why did you join the technology business in the first place? What motivated you?

I work at Worldline Singapore as a Technical Solution Manager for the payment market. My current scope covers business requirement analysis, resources planning and solution design, development and testing.

At the beginning, technology was not part of my professional project. I discovered Information Technology during my studies and from there, I started to be interested in this domain. I discovered the impacts and benefits of technology in our daily lives and how innovation can help us to improve things and to solve problems.

What motivates me in technology is the fact that it is a key enabler to improve things. Technology evolves very fast so you cannot stop learning if you want to stay up-to-date. What is good today may not be useful tomorrow. What works today may not work tomorrow.

What do you find more challenging in your profession?

Our business is to provide solutions in the payment industry. It is a very competitive and fast-evolving environment marked by the entrance of non-traditional new players such as Fintechs with new business approaches. This is changing the way transactions are being processed and we need to ensure that our solutions continue to meet business requirements and not fall behind.

What are you most proud of in your work?

All the payment solutions we design and implement are being used in everyday life. When I pay in a shop or in a restaurant, the transaction may be processed through a solution that I have designed with my colleagues and I feel very proud to explain this to my children.

What advices would you give to achieve Work-life balance?

Firstly, I always try to know myself better and to know my limits. This is very important for your wellbeing in the short term and in the long term as well to spend time reflecting on yourself. Then, I try to avoid to be overstretched by eliminating disruption and learning to say "no" even if it is not an easy thing to do in our Asian culture. But I am convinced that achieving work-life balance is almost impossible when you want to be at 100% everywhere. Another tip is to take rest and vacation and to give time and attention to your family. And, finally, I try to exercise regularly to keep myself healthy. It helps me to relax, to have a clear mind and, in the end, to be more productive at work!

How has Worldline helped you to advance in your career and reach your professional goals?

I can rely on my boss to help me to progress within the organization. She is a good manager, who trusts me and is confident about what I can do. We have an open and transparent communication together and he gives me continuous feedback on my work. This encourages me to express and share my views, ideas and thoughts freely because I know that my suggestions and recommendations will be taken into account positively and even put into practice most of the time. Furthermore, when I start to lead a new project, my manager always makes sure to properly equip me to perform. For instance, I was given the opportunity to be trained on managerial skills and this allowed me to be more self-confident and efficient in my manager position. All these favorable conditions help me to be innovative and resourceful, to do things differently and to adopt new approaches and finally, at the end of the day; I have the feeling that I am a better manager.
