Worldline obtains its “pan-European” Third Party Provider (TPP) license from the National Bank of Belgium and strengthens its position as a major payment service provider in Europe.
Brussels, 16 July 2018 - Worldline [Euronext : WLN], the European leader in payment and transaction services, has obtained two new licenses, linked to the PSD2, from the National Bank of Belgium enabling the company to become a Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP) and an Account Information Service Provider (AISP). These licenses will be immediately extended to the other countries in the European Economic Area.
The purpose of the revised Payment Service Directive (PSD2), which entered into force last January 13th, is to promote innovation, competition and efficiency in the market and to modernize payment services in Europe for the benefit of consumers and businesses alike. It aims in particular to improve transparency, data sharing and consumers’ rights and to reduce payment processes’ costs.
Obtaining these licenses will enable Worldline, which already processes more than 12 billion SEPA transactions in Europe, to strengthen its position as a major payment service provider in Europe.
As a PISP, Worldline can henceforth present and initiate payment operations by transfer on behalf of B-to-B and B-to-C customers, offering a new payment method, with a simplified user experience for consumers and merchants alike.
The two licenses obtained from the National Bank of Belgium enable Worldline to progress to a higher level and, in so doing, to bolster its European payment processing dimension by providing new services to all players in the market.
Vincent Roland, CEO of Worldline Belgium and Worldline’s Merchant Services General Manager: “The PSD2 paves the way for the development of innovative payment services that have a strong impact on the daily lives of consumers and businesses. We are delighted to obtain these licenses from the Belgian regulator that will enable us to provide new innovative services to our customers in the entire European market.”
