New customer behaviour

The average consumer uses several networked devices, goes online several times a day and shares their experiences on social networks. The fact that smartphones and other devices are always switched on and connected is creating new opportunities to increase the frequency of interaction with the customer and the volume of transactions.

Mobile first

Mobile phones are an increasingly important channel for payments. According to GlobalData, m-commerce already accounts for more than 50% of online purchases in some countries. It will not take long for other countries to follow suit.

The growth in e-commerce and m-commerce

We expect e-commerce to continue to grow more strongly than in-store retail. We also anticipate an increasing trend towards an omnichannel environment, in which offline and online interactions merge to form a seamless experience. The Swiss still prefer to pay by credit card and invoice, but mobile methods are rapidly gaining market share. According to a survey by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, TWINT became the second most important means of payment in 2022.

Cryptocurrencies

The COVID effect

COVID-19 has accelerated the use of cashless means of payment. The Capgemini 2021 World Payments Report forecasts that the volume of cashless payment transactions will grow by 17.9% annually from 2020 to 2025. The volumes for the next few years are 15% higher than the forecasts before the pandemic.
