Riders Boutique in Engleberg: Every minute spent at the register is one minute less on the bike
29 / 10 / 2026
Engelberg is known for its mountains, not its bike shops. Yet in the middle of a slump that had the entire cycling industry bracing for impact, Patric Bernhard opened his workshop anyway.
About Riders Boutique
Having worked in the cycling industry since 2010, Patric Bernhard founded Riders Boutique in Engelberg in 2023. The Swiss specialist retailer specialises in premium mountain bikes, e-bikes and road bikes, and offers customers exclusive bespoke builds both in-store and via its own online shop.

Patric "Pad" Bernhard, owner of Riders Boutique Engelberg, explains why he backed bikes when no one else would, and how he manages payments both in-store and online.
Screws instead of administration: How payments work at Riders Boutique
Riders Boutique is no ordinary bike shop. The sales area is small, and there’s no team – just Patric, who runs his workshop right in the heart of Engelberg. He’s been in the bike industry since 2010, but it wasn’t until 2023 that he took the plunge into self-employment.
His focus isn’t on selling off-the-shelf bikes. The emphasis is on precision work and individual components: from tires and wheelsets to drivetrains and brakes, all the way to frames, saddles, handlebars, and suspension. He also offers specialized repairs, suspension fork tuning, custom builds, as well as apparel and protective gear. Anyone who wants to build or maintain their own bike will find the right accessories in the online shop – from workshop maintenance to the finest details. His heart beats strongest for mountain bikes, even though road bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes are just as welcome in his shop. As a father of two, he advises his customers on children’s bikes not only as a mechanic but also from his own experience.
Running that kind of business alone means time is the scarcest resource. Every minute lost to clunky payment admin is a minute not spent tuning a fork or finishing a build. Pad needed a setup that worked quietly in the background, both for walk-in customers at his workshop and for the growing number of parts he sells through his online shop.
Paying should be easy
Pad got in touch with Worldline through CYCLY, the industry-specific software he uses for his business. One factor was crucial for him: keeping the payment process as short as possible for his customers—whether at the counter or in the online store.
"I'm very happy with Worldline, both with the payment terminal on site, as you know it, and with Saferpay for the online shop. What mattered most to me were the online payment options, since I wanted to simplify the process for the end customer in as few steps as possible."

One payment partner, two channels, zero friction
For his workshop, Pad relies on a Worldline payment terminal to handle card payments and contactless transactions quickly and reliably, right at the counter. For his online shop, he uses Saferpay, Worldline's online payment solution. Depending on the integration, it covers payment methods such as TWINT, Visa, Mastercard, PostFinance Pay and Apple Pay, cutting out exactly the kind of checkout friction Pad wanted to spare his customers.
"I was able to sign the contract without any problems. This also makes Worldline really interesting for small businesses."

Less admin, more time at the workbench
With a reliable payment setup across both channels, Pad can focus on what actually grows his business: his reputation as a precise, dependable mechanic. Every hour not spent wrestling with payment admin is an hour spent on a fork tune or a custom build, the very work that built Riders Boutique's name in the first place.
Even as the bike industry was in the midst of a crisis, Pad went ahead and opened his own business. He knew his work was good enough. That’s exactly how he wants it to be when it comes to payments – simple and reliable, no ifs, ands, or buts.
