During the panel discussion titled "Challenges & Opportunities in Payments", Mr. Ioannis Kitixis, Worldline Greece Head and Managing Director addressed both the current state and the future of electronic payments, highlighting the importance of a human-centric approach.

He specifically focused on the steady rise of digital payment solutions in Greece, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic and was further supported by subsequent reforms—most recently, the mandatory interconnection of POS systems with cash registers. "In a short period, card transactions have increased significantly, both in volume and value," he noted.

Mr. Kitixis emphasized that in this rapidly evolving landscape, Worldline in Greece is investing in a strategy centered on the needs of Greek businesses—aimed at developing innovative payment solutions designed for todays’ demanding professionals’ needs and their customers.

"It's no longer enough for payments to be just 'easy' or 'fast.' The customers expect to feel understood: to be able to choose the payment method that suits them," Mr. Kitixis remarked.

He also pointed to the vast potential and opportunities brought by cutting-edge technology in the sector: "Artificial Intelligence allows us to better understand customer needs, recognize patterns, predict trends, and tailor our services accordingly," he stressed.

In this context, he shared that Worldline in Greece has introduced new products and services to offer integrated and innovative digital payment experiences — such as the All-in-One Platform, which transforms any Android POS or Smart POS app into a cash register, for online payments the updated Live-Pay platform, and a revamped e-Commerce solution. The latter enables faster payments for business customers via Apple Pay — with Google Pay coming soon.

"The future of payments is not just digital. It is smart, human, and personalized. And we want to play a decisive role in shaping that future," Mr. Kitixis concluded.

Also participating in the same panel at the Delphi Economic Forum X — an international economic conference that for the past ten years has hosted prominent figures from the business and political worlds in Greece and abroad — were:

  • Mihalis Bletsas, Governor of the National Cybersecurity Authority
  • David Capezza, Vice President, Visa – Ecosystem Risk in Europe
  • Stavroula Kampouridou, CEO, DIAS S.A.
  • Haris Margaritis, COO, Piraeus Bank

Journalist Yiannis Foskolos moderated the discussion.
