EBAday 2023: the development of the payment industry?

15 / 06 / 2023

EBAday is back in less than a week. Alessandro Baroni, Head of Financial Services at Worldline, looks ahead at this year’s focus topics and sessions in his new blog.

EBAday 2023

As Head of Worldline Financial Services, I am thrilled to kick off this blog series for EBAday 2023 and represent Worldline at such a distinguished event where industry leaders come together and exchange expertise, insights and discuss new trends in the payments industry. The 18th edition of EBAday will take place on 20 and 21 June 2023 in Madrid, Spain. Worldline will actively participate in this event, hosting and joining multiple informative sessions. And like previous years, we will actively report on some key insights that will come up during the event.

A variety of topics will be covered during EBAday. From cross-border immediate payments and banking as a service, to CBDC and next generation banking, fintech collaborations, identity services and fraud prevention; a broad range of interesting trends will be discussed during speeches, panel sessions and interviews. The main themes this year – also a focus for Worldline – are Instant Payments and Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs). These topics in particular are ones that we have seen and heard of before during EBAday. However, they remain greatly relevant due to the substantial development seen in recent years, and also in those to come.

We eagerly look forward to an event full of inspiring sessions, insightful discussions, and interesting interactions with fellow industry leaders. Year after year, we witness the evolution of existing trends and the emergence of new ones, keeping the payments industry fresh and exciting.

This year, Sheri Brandon, Chief Market Officer Northern & Western Europe at Worldline will represent us at one of the EBAday panel sessions; ‘Payments processing – from commodity to business opportunity?’ This session will address such questions as: what are the benefits of Payments as a Service (PaaS) for larger and for smaller PSPs, and what are the challenges to overcome? Together with her  fellow panellists, she will discuss possible solutions for the pain points of international payments. I invite you to attend this panel discussion, which will take place on 20 June 20 from 14.30 to 15.15 CET.

Besides Sheri Brandon, my valued colleagues Louise Jones, Jörg Richter and Pierre Calvet will also be present at the event, following multiple sessions. Interesting insights and input obtained from the sessions they attend will be incorporated into a series of blogs, which will be featured on Worldline’s blog platform. These articles are set to be published shortly after the respective sessions have concluded. By delivering (almost) real-time coverage, we extend the opportunity for financial enthusiasts to actively follow EBAday 2023 from anywhere, without the need for physical presence.

We look forward to meeting many of you at the event. You are welcome to visit us at booth #17. For those who will not be attending EBAday 2023, keep an eye on our blog for all the latest updates.
