bofrost*, Europe’s frozen foods market leader, places its trust in Worldline
Together with Worldline, bofrost* has established an efficient, user-friendly payment solution for its direct sales. Payments are accepted rapidly and securely, the number of devices required has been reduced and receipts are readily available at all times.
Zurich — 29 / 06 / 2021
Worldline (Euronext: WLN), the European leader in the payments and transactional services industry, is the preferred partner of bofrost*, Europe’s largest direct distributor of frozen foods and ice cream. Together, the companies have built a complete solution that reduces the necessary hardware and establishes a secure connection between the various devices.
For the approximately 130 bofrost* distribution drivers in Switzerland, the hardware they use on a daily basis had until now been a major challenge. In addition to the Windows handheld device that drivers use for goods management and cash payments, they also carry a terminal and a printer on their daily delivery rounds. Alongside the devices’ technical vulnerability, bandwidth and data exchanges were also obstacles that had to be overcome. A further challenge was the fact that bofrost* wanted to be able to print purchase receipts, for cash payments for example, at any time –.
Mobile deliveries, connected direct sales and secure payment solutions
Worldline is a partner bofrost* can count on to deliver highly secure, frictionless processing of cashless payments and to provide multiple ground-breaking digital services for consumers and merchants right across Europe.
In the first phase, all existing terminals in delivery vehicles were replaced by yoximo mobile terminals. In addition to WLAN and a reliable battery, the yoximo has a built-in printer, making existing printers used superfluous. In the second phase, bofrost* introduced Android smartphones communicating directly with their customers and enabling the use of additional marketing functionality incorporated in the bofrost* app. In the final phase, the mobile yoximo terminals were connected via the TIM interface (TIM = TILL integrated module) to bofrost* drivers’ smartphones to safeguard and ensure reliable data exchanges.
The new solution can work in three different ways:
- Cashless payments (by card, smartphone, smartwatch, etc.) with a printed receipt
- Cashless payments without a printed receipt
- Cash payments with a printed receipt
Upon request, buyers can be issued with a receipt for their purchases at any time, irrespective of how they choose to pay. There is another benefit for bofrost*; drivers now only need to carry two devices—the Android smartphone and the yoximo mobile terminal. Not only does it improve working efficiencies, it also makes for a more secure exchange of data.
Worldline’s solution supports offline transactions too. Even if no SIM-based connection is available, payments can still be accepted. Once the connection is available, the payment is processed. This means that all the usual payment methods in Switzerland are covered, so customers have a flexible choice of payment options. Worldline was more than just a partner and helped bofrost* make improvements to its sales processes.
“Working together with Worldline’s teams was extremely smooth. Our plans were highly ambitious and we had clear ideas about what we expected from an integrated payment solution. Our drivers used to carry a number of different devices which proved challenging for data exchanges. The new yoximo terminals and connection to our app made it possible to cut back on the required infrastructure while adding new features. In addition, the project was completed in a short space of time, thanks to effective planning and direct communication”, Titus Steinegger, Head of Supply Chain Management (SCM) at bofrost* Switzerland AG.
“Following a seamless shopping experience, payment should at the very least be equally smooth—and ideally it should take place completely in the background. At Worldline, we support our customers with shaping their user experience and jumped at the chance to find a solution for bofrost* that was both simple and effective.” Roger Niederer, Chief Market Officer Merchant Services at Worldline.

About bofrost
The bofrost* success story began in Issum in the Lower Rhine region. In the spring of 1966, the Boquoi family installed a deep freezer and started to suppy farmers in the surrounding area with ice cream and vegetables - directly to their doorstep and into their own freezer. Today, bofrost* is the European market leader in direct sales of frozen food and has more than 4 million customers. The top priority of the traditional brand: the frozen food must be delivered on the desired date without interrupting the cold chain. The sales drivers therefore have a lot of work: a Bofrostian, as the employees are called internally, can visit 40 to 60 households a day. https://www.bofrost.com/
