Bezons — 29 / 05 / 2019

Worldline [Euronext: WLN], the European market leader in payment and transaction services, is proud to announce that YUMI, Worldline’s revolutionary next generation portable and flexible payment device for retailers, has been awarded the distinction Red Dot in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019 in the Industrial equipment, machinery and automation category. YUMI has been designed in collaboration with design and innovation agency VanBerlo and delivers cutting edge technology and functionality to retailers and their customers.

La Défense, Paris, France

Designed to create high-value experiences at the Point of Sale

Together with VanBerlo, Worldline has given a great deal of thought to the style and functionality of YUMI and created a truly exceptional addition to its suit of hardware by delivering the first consumer-facing, large-sized and fully touch interactive payment device to the market. Thanks to its ability to rotate 360°, with chip-card reader at the top and bottom or to either side of the unit, and its Android capabilities, it supports merchants in delivering payment experiences that exceed consumers’ expectations, both in terms of design appeal and interior capabilities.

The jury stated: “Technically and aesthetically up-to-date, this payment terminal with a 360-degree design provides an extremely individual and comfortable user experience.”

Design quality is the common factor for award-winning products
“I would like to congratulate the laureates sincerely on their wonderful success. The fact that their products were able to satisfy the strict criteria of the jury bears testimony to their award-winning design quality. The laureates are thus setting key trends in the design industry and are showing where future directions may lead,” Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, in reference to the winners.

Experience and expertise get straight to the point

The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. In 2019, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products into the competition. The international jury comprises of experienced experts from different disciplines and has been convening for more than 60 years in order to select the best designs of the year. During an adjudication process that spans several days, they try out the products, discuss them and ultimately reach a well-founded decision regarding the design quality of the entries. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, their assessment focuses on criteria such as the level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity and ergonomics.

VanBerlo Design Director Roelof van Driel: “As a design and innovation agency, VanBerlo is proud to have been able to contribute once more to the success of Worldline. We value our long-term relationship and our joint and continuous ambition to develop best in class products, working together as a true team. With YUMI, Worldline and VanBerlo have managed to not only deliver a product of outstanding design quality, but also one with a superior user experience that is enabled by state-of-the-art technology, exceeding what is known as the current standard in the market.”

Vincent Roland, Managing Director for Merchant Services at Worldline: “I am particularly proud that our new YUMI payment terminal has received the "Red Dot Award", a very prestigious award for product design. Through the YUMI, Worldline wants to offer both its merchant clients and their customers a new world of value creation interaction before and after the pure payment. All along our development process we researched the best ways to bring innovation and security in a consumer facing design. This award is the best recognition for our brilliant team work.”

Success to be celebrated at the award ceremony
