Worldline extends partnership with UniCredit in Open Banking
Payment Initiation and Account Information services for customers across Europe through a single API
Utrecht/Milan — 23 / 01 / 2025 Worldline, [Euronext: WLN], a global leader in payment services, has renewed its partnership with UniCredit, a leading pan-European bank, to provide its Open Banking services. The partnership with Worldline enables UniCredit customers to connect their accounts with other banks across Europe via a single API. UniCredit can thus effectively offer Account Information services (aimed at simplifying the retrieval of account information) and Payment Initiation services (that simplify payments between bank accounts in online and physical stores), opening to new business opportunities for the bank and its customers.

Instead of separately establishing connections with many different banks, UniCredit benefits from the extensive coverage throughout Europe that involves the use of a single API, with high-cost efficiency. In addition, Worldline's Open Banking infrastructure allows formats from different banks to be converted into a single API interface. This removes any complexity, allowing UniCredit to offer its customers a consolidated view of all their bank accounts held at one or more banks, with the ability to initiate a payment against another European bank's account.
UniCredit has been using Worldline's Open Banking service since 2020. According to this agreement, Worldline operates Open Banking's account aggregation and payment initialization services for UniCredit in Italy, Austria, and Germany. The partnership has now been extended for another 2 years, with an option for 2 additional years.
Alessandro Baroni, Head of Financial Services di Worldline, says: “We are very pleased to have seen our trust confirmed by UniCredit. We will continue to play a central role in enabling access to Open Banking for one of Italy's most important banks to provide additional opportunities for customers. The extension of our partnership fits more broadly into our plan to grow in the country through our ability to provide competitiveness and innovation to financial institutions”.
Worldline is one of the largest Open Banking providers in Europe. The company has also been actively working on PSD3, with the goal of helping the industry implement performance of customer data access interfaces and increase process security. Its commitment to innovation has enabled Worldline to reach approximately 3,500 banks in 19 countries across Europe and enable multiple use cases that make it possible for banks to create high-value offerings for their customers.
