ISO 14001: a certification at the heart of our environmental strategy

What is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is a recognised international standard for environmental management. This standard provides a reference framework to set out all the means and processes aimed at enabling companies to better follow up and monitor the environmental impacts of their activities, products and services. It is a voluntary standard that Worldline has decided to adopt since 2010.
Why did you undertake the ISO 14001 certification process?
The environment is one of the fourth main pillars of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. Our main challenge in this area is to contribute to the eco-efficiency of our operations through the energy optimisation of our buildings and our data centres, through the reduction of the environmental footprint of our business travels and the eco-design of our products (payment terminals). In this context, the ISO 14001 certification encourages us to have a structured approach to environmental management that enables us to identify and implement best practices in favour of environmental protection. The ISO 14001 standard enables us to control our environmental impacts through a continuous and long-term improvement approach.
Worldline and ISO 14001 certification
Worldline, which includes all the Group's entities worldwide and the recently acquired Ingenico perimeter, has an ISO 14001:2015 certified environmental management system. By the end of 2020 and in accordance with our objectives, we will have certified all the sites subject to our certification policy in France, Spain, China, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and India.

What measures have been put in place to obtain this certification?
The key points required are compliance with applicable regulations, identification of environmental impacts and the definition of continuous improvement objectives.
We have established an environmental policy and an associated action plan. Dedicated teams ensure the proper implementation of actions that enable us to reduce our environmental impact, for example the “Logistics & Housing” team for office management or the “Data Center Management” teams for the Data Centers. In addition, we are raising awareness of this approach among all our employees, so that they can take ownership of our environmental challenges and themselves become actors of progress on a daily basis.
What are the benefits of this certification?
Today, more than ever, all our stakeholders (mainly clients, investors, employees, suppliers and local authorities) have high expectations about our actions in favour of the environment. The ISO 14001 certification is internationally recognised, showing our ambition and maturity in this area on a global scale and thus making it a lever of differentiation within our ecosystem.
We are proud to be part of a company that takes environmental issues into consideration and to see that our actions are bringing benefits. Indeed, in 2020, Worldline has been rewarded by many recognized non-financial agencies for its environmental performance and progress.
What are the next steps in environmental certification?
Following the acquisition of Ingenico, our ambition is to make the most of the two ISO 14001 certification approaches implemented so far. We intend to overhaul our systems to align our objectives, to extend our certification more widely and to have the most virtuous environmental management system possible.
