What ́s a typical day in the life in Software Engineering at Worldline?

As a Software Engineer at Worldline, my typical day involves working on developing, designing, and testing software applications. I collaborate with other software engineers, product managers, and project managers to ensure the software meets the customer requirements, and is scalable and efficient. I also participate in code reviews, debugging sessions, and discussions around design and architecture.

How does your work as a Software Engineer impact the world around us?

As a software engineer working on backend development, my work impacts the world by creating innovative solutions that follow best practices in engineering and design. By leveraging modern technology and software engineering principles, we develop and maintain robust payment gateway solutions that enable businesses and individuals to operate more efficiently and effectively. Specifically, my team ensures the high availability of our payment gateway solutions by implementing fault-tolerant design and continuous monitoring, which is critical in ensuring that businesses can accept payments from their customers without any interruptions. Our team also provides a digital switch connecting New Zealand to scheme and in-house payment gateway solutions, enabling secure and reliable payment processing for various businesses in New Zealand. By delivering innovative, high-quality software solutions, we ultimately contribute to the growth of the economy and society.

How has Worldline helped you develop and grow professionally?

Through internship opportunities, I was able to work alongside a team at Worldline and learn about their agile ways of working while working on a project to help customers integrate with their service. The company provided me with strong mentorship from principals and lead engineers, who have been invaluable in feeding my curiosity for best practices and recommending extra reading material such as 'The Phoenix Project' and 'A Philosophy of Software Design'. From early on, I have been included in architecture review boards to gain a deeper understanding of the way we at Worldline make big-picture decisions and where our projects are heading shortly. Finally, I have been allowed to step up as a lead engineer on one of our microservices teams, playing a key role in onboarding and upskilling new team members while driving best practices in process and software design.

What have you learned at Worldline?

At Worldline, I have learned how to work on large-scale software projects and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. I have also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of software testing and quality assurance and the need for strong project management skills to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.

What drives you at work?

What drives me at work is the opportunity to solve complex problems and create innovative solutions that make a real difference in people's lives. I enjoy the challenge of working on new projects and technologies, and I find it incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact that my work can have on the world around us.
