Deputy General Manager – Payment Terminals at Worldline India

What is your line of work? Why did you join the technology business in the first place? What motivated you?

My current line of work is managing Payment Terminals. I take care of the complete lifecycle of terminals in India which includes (but is not limited to) activities such as negotiation with vendors, scheme certifications for terminals, comprehensive and exhaustive testing, application release management, production support, etc.

I came from a technical background with the goal to work in software development. I started off my career in software development on a Microsoft platform for a small firm in India. Subsequently, I got into the payment industry through software development. The past 10 years gave me a vast exposure to the payment industry. My prime focus was to identify areas of improvement in processes followed by my departments in order to develop automation for better productivity and throughput from the teams.

“Payments” is a fast growing industry that has become an integral part of our life. Consumers want payments to be as easy as possible while maintaining a high level of security and privacy. As a payment professional, I see a lot of innovations in this space which excite me.     

 

What do you find more challenging in your profession?

Processes requiring improvements and/or automation for better productivity rely on a drastic mind shift from team members in order to adapt to the new processes. This shift is a gradual process in which there is an initial level of resistance to change. Bringing about a change for betterment of the organization is something that I find both challenging and satisfying at the same time. 

 

What are you most proud of in your work?

I am proud of my team and the way they have shaped up in the past 5 years. There is unity in my teams and that makes them stronger, they have a common purpose and move towards a common goal. 

 

What advices would you give to achieve Work-life balance?

My suggestion to all my fellow colleagues is to follow time management’s best practices. Prioritize your tasks into 4 categories - urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, neither urgent nor important. Make time for something you love other than work and give it the time it deserves. Give yourself a well-deserved break from work by means of vacation. Remember to take time out throughout your day. Be more proactive and less reactive.

 

How has Worldline helped you to advance in your career and reach your professional goals?

Worldline believes in me and my talent and has given me ample opportunities to boost my career and achieve my professional goals. When I started at Worldline, I was given 2 departments to manage; today, I am in charge of 6 departments and that is just in the span of 5 years. Worldline recognizes talent and rewards the talented.
